To the Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme of Australia Bill Shorten and Minister for Social Services of Australia Amanda Rishworth,

I am writing to you today to express my profound concern of the impact caused by the recent release of the Information, Linkages and Capacity Building- Individual Capacity Building 2024-2025 grant round.

Women and non-binary people with disability, who are vital but marginalised members of our community, rely on Women with Disabilities Victoria (WDV) to listen and advocate with them for their right to safety and respect. WDV also has a focus on health services, violence prevention and leadership.

WDV is an organisation run by and for women and non-binary people with disabilities to address issues your current government is attempting to resolve, such as:

- Eliminating violence against women with disabilities.  
- Economic empowerment for women with disabilities through capacity building and employment opportunities.	 
- Supporting the roll out of changes to the NDIS. 
- Implementing the recommendations of the Disability Royal Commission. 
- Acknowledging that to achieve gender equality more women with disabilities and women from diverse backgrounds need to be represented in decision making as well as in public life.

WDV losing 48% of their funding and 36% of their workforce means that they will no longer be able to continue:

- Creating opportunities for women with disabilities to be visible and to be heard in their communities. 
- Building partnerships to deliver the best results for women with disabilities in local and regional communities.  
- Engaging the community to challenge attitudes and myths about women with disabilities. 
- Supporting women with disabilities to achieve their leadership and advocacy goals.  
- Improving and increasing employment opportunities for women with disabilities. 
- Working collaboratively with the disability sector, family violence prevention services, and other community organisations to improve gender and disability inclusion. 
- Researching issues that affect women with disabilities. 
- Campaigning on issues that impact our community, challenging harmful attitudes about gender and disability. 
- Advocating for changes to laws and policies to improve the lives of women with disabilities. 
- Providing expert advice to government.

I call on your government to urgently address the ongoing support of WDV who will now be unable to continue their critical work after June 2024. I strongly urge you to support the work of WDV.

Your recent decision in the ILC grant round has meant that WDV will cease to deliver their evidenced-based capacity-building programs. We ask you to urgently address this funding shortfall.
